  • National News:
    • The President of Guyana, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, will be the Chief Guest at the 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention which will be held in Indore, Madhya Pradesh from January 08-10 2023.
    • The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Admiral R Hari Kumar went on an official to Japan to witness the International Fleet Review (IFR) conducted by the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF) to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of its formation.
    • The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) issued a draft proposal in which it proposed the merging of all Income Tax Return (ITR) forms except IPR7 for making the process time-saving. IPR7 deals with charitable trusts and Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs).
    • The Employee Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) released its vision document:
    1. Delhi’s EPFO coverage was maximum at 61.5%
    2. Tripura’s EPFO coverage was minimum at 02.1%
    • Vadodara joined Pune to become the second Indian city to issue a Municipal Bond. It was issued with support from the Office of Technical Assistance of the US Department of Treasury.
    • The Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, launched the Swachh Survekshan Grameen (SSG) 2023 Toolkit.
    • The Airport Authority of India (AAI) approved the renaming of “Mangalore International Airport” to “Mangaluru International Airport”.

    • India ranked 31st out of 85 countries according to the recently released 7th edition of the Best Countries 2022 list by the US News and World Report. In the list, Switzerland bagged the top position.
    • According to the World Bank Group’s (WBG) report analysis named, “Climate and Development: An Agenda for Action”, the average investment of 1.4% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per annum was capable of reducing 70% of emissions in developing countries.

    • Every year 06 November is observed as International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict around the world. It is an initiative of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) for raising awareness regarding the ill effects of war and conflict on the environment.
  • Appointments:
    • The Argentine great and 7 times winner of the FIFA Ballon d’Or, Lionel Messi, was appointed as the Global Brand Ambassador of EdTech giant Byju’s social initiative “Education For All”.

    • The first voter of independent India, Shyam Singh Negi, passed away at the age of 106. He recently voted for the upcoming Assembly Elections in Himachal Pradesh through postal ballot.
