  • Punjab & Sind Bank and Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance have formed a corporate partnership (BALIC) where PSB clients can access retail life insurance products such as term, savings, retirement, and investment options.
  • The Fintech firm EnKash has received preliminary permission from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for a license as a payment aggregator.
  • The Environmental Social Governance (ESG) Framework of the Export-Import Bank of India (Exim Bank) was used to raise USD 1 billion through the issuance of 10-year Sustainability Bonds in the 144A/Reg-S format.
  • Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES), a CPSE under the Ministry of Railways, signed an MoU with IIT-Kanpur to explore opportunities in sustainability and carbon-related projects, particularly in the steel and power sectors.
  • A recent study by the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment, and Health (UNUINWEH) estimates that by 2050, sediment deposition could cause 3,700 large dams in India to lose an average of 26% of their initial total storage. This could have an impact on future water security, irrigation, and power generation.

  • At a ceremony conducted at the U Soso Tham Auditorium in Shillong, Meghalaya, Conrad K. Sangma, the Chief Minister (CM) of Meghalaya, waved off 30 Shared School Bus systems, unveiled Prime Tourist Vehicles, and unveiled an agriculture response vehicle plan.
  • A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the ONGC Tripura Power Company Limited (OTPC) and the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) to jointly spend Rs 2,000 crore in the development of a battery energy storage system project in Assam.
  • On January 12, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 26th National Youth Festival in the Karnataka cities of Hubballi and Dharwad and it will be over on January 16, 2023.
  • Uttarakhand Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Gurmit Singh has approved a bill providing 30% horizontal reservation for domiciled women citizens of the state in public services and posts.

    • A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the Indian High Commission and Sabaragamuwa University to create a Hindi Chair at the Sri Lankan institution.

    • ‘Veer Guardian-2023’ is the 1st bilateral air exercise between India and Japan.‘Veer Guardian-2023’ exercise has been organised from 12th to 26th January 2023 at the Hyakuri air base and Iruma air base in Japan.
  • Sports News:
    • The Australian Open will be broadcast on Sony Sports Network's channels and OTT (Over-The-Top) app SonyLiv in 2023. Sony Sports Network has signed Panasonic as an associate sponsor and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Samsonite as co-presenting sponsors for the event.
  • Appointments
    • A Santhi Kumari, a Senior Indian Administrative Official (IAS) officer from the 1989 batch, was selected by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao as the state's first female chief secretary. Her term will end in April 2025.
  • Books:
    • The book "Braving A Viral Storm: India's Covid-19 Vaccine Story" was launched by Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, in New Delhi, Delhi. Aashish Chandorkar and Suraj Sudhir collaborated on the writing of the book, which was released by Rupa Publications India.
