  • On January 18, 2023, Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao introduced the second stage of the "Kanti Velugu" initiative in the Khammam district. It is regarded as the largest eye screening program in the world.
  • Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, will host the inaugural G20 Health Working Group conference from January 18–20, 2023. Both V. Muraleedharan (MoS External Affairs) and Bharati Pravin Pawar (MoS Health and Family Welfare) were present.
  • Via video conference, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the second stage of the Saansad Khel Mahakumbh in the Uttar Pradesh district of Basti. It plans a variety of indoor and outdoor sporting events.
  • Neelakurinji (Strobilanthes kunthiana) has been included in the list of protected plants under Schedule III of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, according to the Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Climate Change (MoEF). Tropical plant species known as neelakurinji are only found in the Western Ghats' shola woods.

  • During landscaping work near the Sarai Tila mound within the complex of the world heritage site "Nalanda Mahavihara" in Nalanda district, Bihar, the Patna Circle of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) discovered two 1200-year-old miniature stupas. The figures of Buddha are depicted on the stupa carved out of stone.
  • The first National Assessment Regulator in India, "PARKH," has been informed by the National Council of Education Research and Training. Performance Appraisal, Review, and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development are abbreviated as PARAKH.
  • The flagship company of the Adani Group, Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL), struck an agreement with Ashok Leyland of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and Ballard Power Systems of Canada to launch a pilot project to create a hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Truck (FCET) for mining logistics and transportation.

  • A "System and Method for Controlling Generation and Movement of Fugitive Dust" has been developed by Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Limited (CMPDIL), a consultancy subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL) with headquarters in Ranchi (Jharkhand), to reduce and control fugitive dust in mining areas. In December 2022, CMPDIL was granted a patent (Patent No. 416055) for its creation.

    • Sri Lanka has chosen to publish a commemorative stamp featuring a portrait of Jawaharlal Nehru as part of its 75th National Independence Day celebrations.
    • At the Esrange Space Center near Kiruna in northern Sweden, the European Union (EU) has constructed "Spaceport Esrange," a new satellite launch and reusable rocket test facility. This is the EU's first mainland orbital launch complex.
    • Nguyen Xuan Phuc, the 68-year-old president of Vietnam, presented his resignation after the communist party accused him of being responsible for the wrongdoings and violations committed by the senior ministers who served under him from 2016 to 2021.
    • The first-ever bilateral military exercise between Indian and Egyptian Special Forces, dubbed "Cyclone," will take place in Rajasthan's Udaipur, Jodhpur, and Jaipur.

    • For his book "Broke to Breakthrough," journalist Harish Damodaran of the Indian Express received the Gaja Capital Business Book Prize 2022.

    • Dravidian language expert Ronald Eaton Asher (R E Asher), a well-known British linguist, has passed away in the United Kingdom's Edinburgh, Scotland (UK). He was born in Gringley-on-the-Hill, England, on July 23, 1926.

    • The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the first global organization completely focused on renewable energy, conducted its 13th assembly from January 13–15, 2023, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and India has assumed the chairmanship (UAE).

    • National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) celebrated its 18th Raising Day today with great zeal and enthusiasm. Hon’ble Minister of State for Home Affairs Shri Nityanand Rai graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. NDRF was raised on 19th Jan 2006 as the main disaster response Force of the country.
    • On January 19th, the Indian State of Tripura observes Kokborok Day, also known as Tripuri Language Day, with the goal of fostering the Kokborok language. This day honours the year 1979 when Kokborok became officially recognized for the first time.
