  • The important Israeli port of Haifa has been purchased by The Adani Group for USD 1.2 billion. In the presence of Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani inked the agreement.
  • On January 31, 2023, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy declared that Visakhapatnam would replace Amaravati as the state's capital. Amaravati had been the capital since 2015, during Chandrababu Naidu's administration, which came before the Reddy administration.
  • The Biological Diversity Act has nominated Yaya Tso Lake as the first Ladakh Biodiversity Heritage Site.

  • Nirmala Sitharaman, the finance minister, declared that her country would begin a quest to eradicate sickle cell anaemia by 2047. On February 1, 2023, Sitharaman announced that "a mission to eliminate sickle cell anaemia by 2047 will be initiated" when presenting the Union Budget for 2023–2024 to the Lok Sabha.
  • The average processing time for income tax returns has decreased from 93 to 16 days, according to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who made the announcement at the presentation of the Union Budget on February 1, 2023.
  • The travel and tourism industry will be a major emphasis of the Union Budget, which will be unveiled on February 1, 2023. 50 tourist locations will be chosen with the help of the state governments.
  • The US-India initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) and Innovation Bridge was inaugurated by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and his American counterpart Jake Sullivan. In May 2022, US President Joe Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the iCET.

    • The United Kingdom (UK) has been chosen by the international business organisation BioAsia as its country partner for the 20th anniversary of the biggest event in Asia's biotechnological sector. "Advancing for ONE: Shaping the Next Generation of Humanized Healthcare" is the theme for 2023.
    • Hibbertopterus lamsdelli, a new species of aquatic arthropod, was discovered in fossilised remains discovered in New Mexico.
  • Sports:
    • The 85th iteration of the yearly chess competition held in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands, is the Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2023. Anish Giri, a Dutch player, has won the 85th edition of Tata Steel Chess after capitalising on Richard Rapport's error and ousting longtime leader Nodirbek Abdusattorov.

    • Every year on February 2, people all around the world celebrate World Wetlands Day, which strives to increase awareness of the critical role wetlands play for both people and the environment. It's Time for Wetlands Restoration is the theme for 2023.
    • Every year on February 1, India celebrates Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Day to remember the organization's founding day. The ICG is a department of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of the Indian government (GoI). The day's goal is to honour organisations that promote marine security.
