Current context: The State of Karnataka is preparing for elections in May 2023, and the Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai presented the interim budget for 2023-24. An interim budget is presented before the elections.
Karnataka state Budget 2023-24 announced

  • The total budget outlay is Rs 9,698 crores, and the Karnataka government plans to set up a startup park near Bengaluru Airport, provide free bus passes to students, and construct toilets in government schools.
  • The budget also includes the implementation of a flood control project costing Rs 3000 crores, the construction of the Bengaluru Metro Rail Project for 40.15 km, and the construction of a Satellite Town Ring Road with 30% of the acquisition cost to be borne by the State Government.
  • In addition, the government plans to construct 75 new junctions in Bengaluru to ease traffic at a cost of Rs 150 crores, and traffic signals are to use AI. "She Toilets" are also to be constructed in Bengaluru.
  • The economic scenario of Karnataka includes an estimated total tax revenue of Rs 1,64,653 crores and an estimated total non-tax revenue of Rs 11,000 crores for 2023-24.
  • The total expenditure for the year 2023-24 is expected to be Rs 3,09,182 crores. The revenue receipt for the year 2022-23 was higher than the revenue expenditure, and the Chief Minister presented a revenue surplus budget which he was proud to share
