Current context: Some key highlights of the West Bengal state budget for the financial year 2023-24 presented by the State Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya are:

  1. A budget of 3.39 lakh crore rupees has been presented, with a focus on start-ups, rural connectivity and the manufacturing industry.
  2. The State Government has allocated 350 crores of rupees for the startups, and each entrepreneur will be provided with financial assistance of five lakh rupees to build their startup.
  3. The government plans to construct 12,500 km of the road at a projected cost of 3,000 crores of rupees.
  4. Agricultural tax on the tea gardens will be waived for the next two years, 2023-24 and 2024-25.
  5. The Dearness Allowance has been increased by 3%.
  6. The MLA Annual allocation funds will be increased to Rs 70 lakhs from the current Rs 60 lakh.
  7. The Matsyajeebi Bandhu Scheme will provide one-time financial assistance of Rs 2 lakhs to help dead fishermen's families.
  8. Stamp duty rebates will continue till September 2023.
  9. The Lakshmi Bandhar Project will include 88 crores of women.
  10. The outstanding debt of the West Bengal Government is currently Rs 5.86 lakh crores.
  11. The growth rate of West Bengal is expected to be 8.4%.
