  • The World Air Quality Report for the year 2022 was published by IQAir, a Switzerland-based air quality technology company, on March 14, 2023.
    • The report ranks the world’s most polluted countries and cities based on the World Air Quality Index (AQI). According to the report, about 90% of the global population in 2022 experienced unhealthy air quality. India is at the eighth rank in terms of the world’s most polluted country in the world.
  • The Global Terrorism Index (GTI) is a report published annually by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) which provides a comprehensive summary of the key global trends and patterns in terrorism since 20001. The latest report is the Global Terrorism Index 2023 which was published on March 14, 2023.
    • According to the report, attacks have become more deadly with the lethality rising by 26%. Terrorism deaths are down 9%, although this is attributed to the Taliban’s transition from terror group to state actor. Attacks almost halved in the last year, from 1,331 in 2021 to 695 in 2022.
    • According to the Global Terrorism Index 2023 report, India ranked 13th on the index, marking only a marginal decrease from the previous year. Afghanistan retains the top spot on the list of the country impacted by terrorism for the fourth consecutive year. India’s score is 7.175, while Afghanistan which ranks no. 1 on the list, has a score of 8.822.
  • Sweden Business Council has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Government of Maharashtra to evolve and develop sustainable infrastructure to reduce waste.
  • According to a study by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (Sipri), India is still the world’s largest importer of military equipment, despite an 11% decline in arms purchases between 2013–17 and 2018–22.
  • India and US has collaborated to co-operate in the private sector market of semi-conductors. This will reduce their dependency on China.
  • According to Landslide Atlas, which is prepared by Hyderabad’s National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) of ISRO, Uttrakhand’s Rudraprayag district is prone to landslides the highest.
  • SBI raised Rs.3717crores by AT-1 bonds.
  • Odisha Government has approved Rs.500crores for the new Scheme “Livelihoods Cluster Development initiative” under the Mukhya Mantri Janajati Jeebika Mission.
