3 new conservation reserves are being established in Rajasthan

Current Context: Rajasthan Forest Department announced three new conservation reserves on Earth Day 2023.

• These conservation reserves will help preserve the biodiversity and natural heritage of Rajasthan, as well as attract more tourists and wildlife enthusiasts to the state. These are:
• Sorsan in Baran, which will protect rare and endangered species like the great Indian bustard and the blackbuck.
• Khichan in Jodhpur, which will provide a winter home for migratory birds like the demoiselle cranes.
• Hamirgarh in Bhilwara, which will also protect the wildlife of the region.

With these new additions, Rajasthan now has a total of 26 wildlife conservation reserves. Some of the well-known existing ones are:

• Bisalpur Conservation Reserve in Tonk
• Jodbeed Gadhwala Bikaner Conservation Reserve in Bikaner
• Khetri Bansyal Conservation Reserve in Jhunjhunu
• Jawai Bandh Leopard Conservation Reserve in Pali
