Current Context: According to the India Justice Report (IJR) 2022, released on 4 April 2023, the state of Karnataka has secured the top rank among 18 large and medium-sized states with a population of more than 1 crore.

  • Tamil Nadu has secured the second position in the ranking, while Telangana has secured the third position.
  • The state of Gujarat has got the fourth position and Andhra Pradesh is at the fifth position.
  • The state of Uttar Pradesh has been placed at the 18th position, which is at the bottom among the states.
  • Each pillar was analysed through budget, human resources, workload, diversity, infrastructure and trends towards the state's own declared standards and benchmarks.
  • This third IJR also separately assesses the capacity of the country's 25 State Human Rights Commissions.
