Current Context: Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi has given assent to the bill to ban online gambling.It is worth noting that Governor Ravi sent the bill back to the Tamil Nadu government for reconsideration, but in March 2023, the Tamil Nadu Assembly unanimously passed the bill once again.

  • On June 9, 2022, the Tamil Nadu government established a committee headed by Justice Chandru to investigate the harmful effects of online gambling.
  • The four-member committee submitted a report to the chief minister on June 27, 2022, suggesting the implementation of an ordinance to prohibit online gaming activities such as rummy and poker.
