Water Metro in Kochi

Current Context: The Kochi Water Metro is India’s first water metro that was inaugurated today by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It connects 10 islands around Kochi through battery-operated electric hybrid boats.

• The project is worth ₹ 747 crore and has identified 15 routes connecting islands spanning 78 km. The overall project comprises 78 electric boats with a total of 38 terminals.
• The water metro service will start at 7 am and continue till 8 pm1. During the peak hours, boats will operate in the High Court to Vypin route every 15 minutes.
