    • Union Health Ministry has launched a learning management information system called SAKSHAM (Stimulating Advanced Knowledge for Sustainable Health Management). This digital learning platform has been developed by the National Institute of Health & Family Welfare (NIHFW), New Delhi

    • Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY) have completed 8 years. Union Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman stated that till 26th April 2023, 16.2 crore, 34.2 crore and 5.2 crore enrolments have been done under PMJJBY, PMSBY & APY respectively

    • President Droupadi Murmu conferred eight Kirti Chakras, including five posthumous, and 29 Shaurya Chakras, including five posthumous to the personnel of the Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces and State/Union Territory Police during Defence Investiture Ceremony (Phase-1) in New Delhi on May 09, 2023

    • Reserve Bank of India, the cumulative total expenditure for adapting to climate change in India is estimated to be Rs 85.6 lakh crore by 2030. India’s green financing needs to plug the infrastructure gap caused by climate events could be at least 2.5 per cent of the annual GDP
    • India’s diesel consumption in April hit a record 7.8 million tonnes aided by robust industrial and farm activities. Besides, heightened activity prior to the closure of the financial year also aided sales
    • Commerce ministry’s arm DGTR has recommended imposition of anti-dumping duty on imports of a certain type of optical fibres from China, Korea and Indonesia to protect the domestic industry from cheap inbound shipments
    • India Post has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) and Tripta Technologies for logistics services. The MoU will benefit small and medium traders as they will be able to use India Post as a logistics service provider across the country
    • Fitch Ratings has lowered its 2023-24 GDP growth forecast for India to 6% from 6.2%, citing headwinds from elevated inflation and interest rates along with subdued global demand. The economy is expected to rebound to 6.7% in 2024-25 as opposed to 6.9% projected earlier
    • Nextbillion Technology, which runs the investment platform Groww, has completed the acquisition of the mutual fund business of Indiabulls Housing Finance (IBHFL) for Rs 175.6 crore after receiving the necessary approvals

    • May 10, 2023, the United States announced a new $1.2bn military aid package for Ukraine that will include air defence systems, conventional artillery and counter-drone ammunition, satellite imagery services, as well as funding for military training
    • Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was taken into custody by paramilitary forces on Tuesday. The former leader was arrested during a court appearance in Islamabad over anti-graft charges
  • Sports
    • Indian weightlifters finished the Asian Weightlifting Championships 2023 in Jinju, South Korea, with three silver medals. Bindyarani Devi won two silvers in the women’s 55kg category while Jeremy Lalrinnunga bagged a silver in the men’s 67kg snatch section
    • Deepak Bhoria (51kg) and Nishant Dev (71kg) have advanced to the quarterfinals of the men’s World Boxing Championships in Tashkent. Deepak Bhoria reached the quarterfinals of the men’s 51kg category with a 5-0 unanimous decision win over Zhang Jiamao of China
    • Lionel Messi made sporting history at the prestigious 2023 Laureus World Sports Awards in Paris. He became the first athlete to win the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year and also pick up the Laureus World Team of the Year Award in the same year
