Current Context: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu launched the ‘Himcare scheme’ for jail inmates on Monday, 15th May 2023. He distributed Himcare cards to the prisoners at Model Central Jail Kanda in Shimla.

• The Himcare scheme aims to provide Rs 5 lakh medical cover to the inmates lodged in jails and juvenile homes in the state.
• The state government will cover the cost of premiums for inmates in prisons.
