Telangana CM KCR launched Geeta Karmikula Bima Scheme

Current Context: It is a new initiative by the Telangana government to provide an insurance cover of Rs. 5 lakh to toddy tapers in case of death for any reason. The scheme was announced by CM KCR on 2 May 2023.

• The aim of the scheme is to support the families of the toddy tapers who are losing their bread-earners due to accidental falls from palm trees while tapping toddy.
• The insurance amount would be directly deposited into the bank accounts of the family members without any delay.
• The scheme is similar to the existing Rythu Bima scheme for farmers. The CM instructed ministers to formulate guidelines for the scheme and Chief Secretary to initiate immediate steps.
