Andhra Pradesh CM launches ‘Jagananna Amma Vodi’ Scheme

Current Context: Jagananna Amma Vodi scheme. It is a welfare scheme launched by the Government of Andhra Pradesh to encourage parents to send their children to school by depositing 15,000 of financial assistance in the bank account of student’s mother.

  • The scheme is managed by the School Education Department of the state and covers students from Class 1st to Class 12th who are studying in recognized Government, Private Aided, and Private Unaided School/Jr. College or Residential School/Jr.College in the state.
  • The scheme was launched on 9th January 2020 by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Shri YSR Jagan Mohan Reddy and has benefited around 45 lakh households so far.
  • The scheme has some eligibility criteria and exclusions based on family income, occupation, electricity consumption, land ownership, attendance, etc.
  • The scheme was a part of YS Jagan’s election manifesto for the 2014 and 2019 Legislative Assembly elections.
