  •  National:
    • Ministry of Power (MoP) and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) have jointly launched a national mission named “Mission on Advanced and High-Impact Research” (MAHIR) to quickly identify emerging technologies in the power sector and leverage them indigenously, at scale, for deployment within and outside India

    • 8th June 2023, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (the Global Fund) signed a new and revised Strategic Framework for Collaboration
    • United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has launched its third cohort of four ocean innovators to demonstrate the compelling roles of marine spatial planning (MSP), marine protected areas (MPAs) and new environmentally and socially sustainable economic activities for a healthy and resilient ocean
    • The Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) launched mission EVOLVE (Electric Vehicle Operations and Lending for Vibrant Ecosystem) in a tie-up with the Niti Aayog, World Bank, Korea-World Bank partnership facility, and Korean Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) to finance MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) in the electric vehicles (EV) space.

    • Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson resigned as a lawmaker after being told he will be sanctioned for misleading Parliament. He quit after receiving the results of an investigation by lawmakers over misleading statements he made to Parliament about “partygate,” a series of rule-breaking government parties during the pandemic
    • The Sudanese government has declared that the UN envoy to Sudan, Volker Perthes, is no longer welcome in the country. The UN denounced this move and said that a member of UN personnel cannot be declared persona non grata and that this goes against the UN charter
    • Vice President Kamala Harris announced more than $100 million in support for the Caribbean during her trip to Nassau, The Bahamas.
    • European Union ministers have agreed on a deal to overhaul the bloc’s asylum procedures after 12 hours of negotiations to obtain the go-ahead from front-line members Italy and Greece
    • Saudi Arabia and the United States announced a 24-hour ceasefire starting Saturday between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, the Saudi Foreign Ministry said in a statement Friday

    • Novak Djokovic defeated Casper Ruud in the French Open final to win his 23rd Grand Slam singles title. Djokovic is now the only male player to have won each of the four Slams - Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open - at least three times
    • Fan Zhendong, World No.1 Table Tennis player from China, won the Men’s Singles title at the 2023 International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Table Tennis (WTT) Championships defeating China’s Wang Chuqin (world no.2) in the finals held in Durban, South Africa on 28th May 2023
