  • National:
    • The Department of Justice has partnered with NALSA and CSC e-Governance Service India Limited for mainstreaming legal aid to the marginalised communities through the system of Tele-Law.

    • The United States has announced that two new US Consulates will be opened in key Indian cities – Bengaluru and Ahmedabad. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced this in an address to Indian community members at Ronald Regan Building in Washington.
    • On June 21, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated DHRUV, an Integrated Simulator Complex (ISC), at the Southern Naval Command.
    • The India-United States Defence Acceleration Ecosystem (INDUS-X) was launched at an event in Washington to expand the strategic technology partnership and defense industrial cooperation between India and the US.
    • According to the 2023 edition of Henley’s annual Private Wealth Migration Report, India is set to lose as many as 6,500 high-net worth individuals (HNWIs) this year, second only to neighbor China (13,500), with the United Kingdom (3,200) placed third on the list.
    • Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) participated in the three-day “Intersolar Europe 2023” exhibition held in Munich, Germany from 14th to 16th June, 2023.
    • World Bank’s board of directors have approved a USD 150 million loan to support the Resilient Kerala Program. The fund will help the state to strengthen its preparedness against natural disasters, climate change impacts, and disease outbreaks.
    • State-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Fabrica Argentina de Aviones (FAdeA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the ongoing Paris Air Show 2023.
    • Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) topped as India’s most valuable company with a value of Rs 16.37 lakh crore followed by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) with Rs 11.76 lakh crore and HDFC Bank with Rs 9.41 lakh crore.
    • According to the Randstad Employer Brand Research (REBR) 2023, Tata Power Company has been recognized as India’s most attractive employer brand. The comprehensive survey highlights Tata Power’s high scores in financial health, good reputation and career progression opportunities.
    • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has assigned additional responsibilities to three deputy governors after M K Jain demitted office.
    • The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has officially accepted the proposal for a hybrid model for the upcoming 2023 Asia Cup. This means that the prestigious tournament will be jointly hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
    • India and US have identified around 25 areas of technology partnership in the joint statement as a direct result of the discussion between US President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
    • The UT-level Science, Mathematics and Environment exhibition-2023, organized by DIET culminated at Kargil yesterday. During the event, model exhibitions on the theme “Technology and Toys” by 36 teams of Leh and Kargil were displayed.

    • American chipmaker Micron will invest 825 million dollars to build a Chip Assembly and Testing Facility in Gujarat1. The combined investment by Micron, the Centre and Gujarat government will amount to 2.75 billion dollars.
    • Funds parked by Indian individuals and firms in Swiss banks, including through India-based branches and other financial institutions, declined by 11% in 2022 to 3.42 billion Swiss francs (almost ₹30,000 crore), according to annual data from Switzerland’s central bank.
  • World:
    • Summit for a New Global Financing Pact commenced in Paris, France on June 22 and 23, 20231. The summit is aimed at building a new contract between the countries of the North and the South to respond to the dual urgency of climate change and global inequalities.
    • according to the latest Global Liveability Index 2023 published by the Economist Intelligence Unit, Dhaka has ranked as the seventh least liveable city in the world1. Dhaka scored 43.8 out of 100, ranking 167th out of 173 cities on the index.
    • US lawmakers have voted to greenlight an agreement aimed at deepening economic relations with Taiwan, prompting an irritated response from Beijing.
  • Sports:
    • Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath unveiled the first ticket for the first race of the world’s fastest motorbike race ‘Moto GP’ 2023.
    • The Indian contingent at the Special Olympics World Games 2023 passed the 50-medal mark on Wednesday in Berlin. India has so far won 55 medals spread across five different sports – athletics, cycling, swimming, powerlifting, and roller skating.
  • Awards:
    • an Indian documentary film titled “When Climate Change Turns Violent” has won a special prize in the ‘Health for All’ category at the 4th Annual Health for All Film Festival (HAFF) held at the World Health Organisation (WHO) headquarters in Geneva recently.
    • Lalitha Natarajan, a Chennai-based lawyer-activist has been awarded the 2023 Iqbal Masih Award for the Elimination of Child Labour by the United States Department of Labor.
  • Obituary:
    • Cormac McCarthy, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Road and No Country for Old Men, has passed away at the age of 891. He was known for his dark tales of Americana and was an icon in modern US literature.
  • Banking:
    • SEBI has introduced a stricter framework for the disposal of undertaking by a listed entity. The new framework requires listed entities to follow a stricter regime for disposal of undertaking, mandating approval from majority of the public shareholders who are not interested in the transaction, disclosure of the object, commercial rationale and use of proceeds arising from such transaction.
    • Axis Bank has launched a new feature called One-View on its mobile app that allows customers to manage multiple bank accounts, including non-Axis accounts, on one platform.
