  • National:

    • India’s first hydrogen train is expected to start from Haryana’s Jind district by March 2024. The train will run between Jind and Sonipat on the Northern Railway and will have eight bogies.
    • India and UAE signed a Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) for Authorized Economic Operators (AEOs) on the sidelines of the 141st/142nd sessions of the World Customs Organization’s (WCO) Customs Co-operation Council meeting held in Brussels.
    • IIT-Kanpur has successfully conducted a test for artificial rain via cloud-seeding over a limited area on their campus. A plane flew to a height of 5,000ft from the institute’s airstrip, firing powder spray amid thick clouds, which resulted in heavy rain.
    • SpaceX launched another big batch of its Starlink internet satellites early Thursday morning (June 22) and landed the returning rocket on a ship at sea. A Falcon 9 rocket carrying 47 Starlink spacecraft lifted off from California’s Vandenberg Space Force Base on Thursday at 3:19 a.m. EDT (0719 GMT; 12:19 a.m. local time).
    • Union Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur flagged off the “Bharat in Paris” campaign with a short marathon at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.
    • Paytm Payment Services Limited (PPSL) has signed an MoU with Arunachal Pradesh Innovation and Investment Park (APIIP) to create a startup ecosystem for the youth in the northeastern state.
    • The Himachal Pradesh government has renamed its Department of Information Technology as the Department of Digital Technologies and Governance. The approval to this effect was given by the state cabinet recently.
    • Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi signed a landmark strategic partnership agreement following their decision earlier this year to elevate ties.
    • The third G20 Infrastructure Working Group (IWG) meeting under G20 Indian Presidency took place in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand from 26th to 28th June 2023.
    • The National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) has signed an MoU with the Government of Maldives to enhance the skills and capabilities of 1,000 civil servants in the field of public administration and governance by 2024.
  • World:
    • Japan has lodged a protest against Russia over the country’s decision to declare September 3 as a day of victory over “militaristic Japan”.
    • French climate finance summit. The summit was held in Paris and was attended by dozens of heads of state. The summit aimed to discuss climate finance and how to tackle climate change.
  • Sports:
    • India had a 2-0 win over Nepal in the SAFF Championship at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on June 25th 2023. Second-half goals from skipper Sunil Chhetri and Naorem Mahesh secured India a semifinal spot.
    • England’s Jos Buttler has joined the illustrious 10,000-run club in T20 cricket. He accomplished this milestone during Lancashire’s T20 Blast 2023 clash against Derbyshire on June 23rd.
  • Banking:
    • The World Bank has unveiled a debt payment pause and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has touted $100 billion for the poorest.
    • Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has launched a new close-ended plan named ‘Dhan Vridhhi’ which is a non-linked, non-participating, individual, savings, single premium Life Insurance plan offering a combination of protection and savings.
    • Manipal Technologies Limited (MTL) has partnered with Indian Bank to drive financial inclusion by offering customised banking products. The partnership aims to build a sustainable network of corporate business correspondents (CBCs).
  • Awards:
    • The Sahitya Akademi has announced a list of 22 recipients of its Bal Sahitya Puraskar and 20 winners of its Yuva Puraskar for this year.Among the selected awardees of the Bal Sahitya Puraskar is renowned children’s author Sudha Murty, who will be awarded for her collection of stories titled ‘Grandparents’ Bag of Stories.
    • Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with the ‘Order of the Nile’, the highest state honour of Egypt, by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on June 25, 2022. The award is conferred upon heads of states, crown princes, and vice presidents who offer Egypt or humanity invaluable services.
