- National:

- According to the UNODC World Drug Report 2023, over a period of 10 years, the number of people who use drugs has increased by 23 per cent to 296 million people worldwide. Additionally, an estimated one in five people, or 39.5 million people around the world, are suffering from drug use disorders.
- According to a Reserve Bank of India (RBI) paper, inflation is slowing down personal consumption expenditure, which in turn is moderating corporate sales and holding back private investment in capacity creation.
- World Bank has approved a USD 255.5 million loan to improve the quality of technical education in government-run institutions in India.
- Infosys has signed a USD 454 million digital transformation deal with Denmark-based Danske Bank for a period of five years. As part of the strategic collaboration, Infosys will also acquire Danske Bank’s IT centre in India which employs 1400 digitally skilled professionals.
- On 19 June 2023, five exceptional young scientists from Argentina, Cameroon, China, Egypt and Serbia received the prestigious UNESCO-AI Fozan International Prize for the Promotion of Young Scientists in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) during a ceremony at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France.

- The Government of India has decided to release Tur from the national buffer in a calibrated and targeted manner till imported stocks arrive in the Indian market. The move is aimed at augmenting the availability of Tur Dal to consumers at affordable prices.
- 8th edition of the world’s largest urban cleanliness survey has begun. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has launched the Field Assessment for the survey, called Swachh Survekshan 2023 – Mera Shehar, Meri Pehchan.
- Economy:
- The Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has extended the deadline to file applications to apply for higher pension till July 11, 2023. The deadline was previously June 26, 20232. This is the third time the deadline has been extended.
- The Ministry of Finance has approved capital investment proposals of Rs 56,415 crore for 16 States in the current financial year under a special assistance scheme announced in the budget.
- S&P Global Ratings has retained its economic growth forecast for India at 6% for 2023-24. It will be the fastest growing economy among Asia Pacific nations.
- Sports:
- India ended its Special Olympics World Games 2023 campaign by winning 202 medals (76 gold, 75 silver and 51 bronze), with the last of the medals coming from the athletics track. Indian athletes notched six medals from the track events (2 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze).
- The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 is scheduled to begin on 5th October in Ahmedabad with a match between England and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The final match will also be played in Ahmedabad on 19th November.

- Obituary:
- Hardwar Dubey, a BJP Rajya Sabha MP from Uttar Pradesh, passed away at the age of 74 at a private hospital in Delhi. He was a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party and was elected to the Rajya Sabha in November 2020
- John B. Goodenough, the Nobel Prize-winning engineer whose contributions to developing lithium-ion batteries revolutionized portable technology, has passed away at the age of 100. He was a faculty member at the University of Texas at Austin for 37 years
