  • National:
    • The Government of India has extended the timeline for disbursement of loan/completion of ethanol projects up to 30th September 2023 in respect of all the schemes notified during 2018-2021.

    • The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has approved a broad framework of Application Supported by Blocked Amount (ASBA)-like facility to be available to investors for secondary market trading.
    • On June 26th, 2023, the World Bank approved USD 391 million in financing to improve healthcare services and economic opportunities in India’s northeastern states of Assam and Tripura.
    • Legendary Indian woman cricketer Jhulan Goswami, England women’s team skipper Heather Knight and 2019 ODI World Cup winning captain Eoin Morgan have joined the MCC World Cricket Committee (WCC) ahead of its meeting at the Lord’s.
    • Piramal Enterprises is looking to sell its entire 8.3% stake in Shriram Finance via block deals. The floor price for the deal has been set at 1,483, a discount of up to 5% to the current share price.
    • India won a total of 202 medals at the Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023, including 76 gold medals. India sent the second-largest contingent of 198 athletes with 57 coaches who competed in 16 sports during the nine-day event.
    • The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), 10th Battalion, will press into service a new vehicle which will have facilities to provide uninterrupted internet, VHF and other services during emergencies.
    • The Union Cabinet has approved the introduction of the National Research Foundation (NRF) Bill, 2023 in Parliament. The bill will establish NRF, an apex body to provide high-level strategic direction of scientific research in the country as per recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP), at a total estimated cost of Rs. 50,000 crore during five years (2023-28).
    • Culture Ministry has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Canara Bank for monthly disbursal of assistance to veteran artists under the scheme named “Financial Assistance for Veteran Artists”.
  • Economy:
    • The Karnataka Cabinet has decided to provide cash in lieu of rice under the Anna Bhagya scheme after holding elaborate discussions on the implementation of the scheme.
    • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) recently approved the PM Programme for Restoration, Awareness, Generation, Nourishment and Amelioration of Mother Earth (PM-PRANAM) scheme.
    • The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India, has invited applications for ‘5G and Beyond Hackathon 2023’. The Hackathon aims to shortlist India-focused cutting-edge ideas that can be converted into workable 5G and beyond products and solutions.
    • Centre has given a boost to reforms by the states in the power sector by providing financial incentives in the form of additional borrowing permissions. The move aims to encourage and support the states in undertaking reforms.
  • Sports:
    • Steve Smith, the Australian batter, became the second fastest to reach 9,000 runs in Tests after Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara. He achieved this feat in just 174 innings during the second Test against England at Lord’s on June 28, 2023.
    • In a thrilling finale of the 27th Senior Women’s National Football Championship, Tamil Nadu displayed exceptional skill and determination to beat Haryana 2-1, securing a remarkable victory and emerging as the champion.
  • Important Days:
    • World MSME Day is observed on June 27, every year. It was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2017 to raise awareness about the importance of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises in promoting inclusive and sustainable development worldwide.
    • World Vitiligo Day is celebrated on June 25 annually, since 2011. The day commemorates the birth of famous pop star Michael Jackson.The theme for World Vitiligo Day 2023 is "Vitiligo: Looking into the Future".
  • Appointments:
    • DBS Bank India has appointed Rajat Verma as managing director and head of institutional banking. Verma, who was previously with HSBC India, will be taking over from Niraj Mittal, who is moving to Australia to take charge as the country head of DBS Bank.
    • Aarti Holla-Maini, an Indian-origin British satellite industry expert, has been appointed by the United Nations Secretary-General as the Director of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA).
    • The Congress has appointed TS Singh Deo as the Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh just months ahead of the Assembly elections in the state. The decision was taken after a meeting was held by the Congress leadership in New Delhi to discuss the poll strategy in Chhattisgarh.
