Current Context: The Global Liveability Index 2023 is a report by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) that ranks 173 cities around the world on a number of factors, such as stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure.

  • According to the report, Vienna, the capital of Austria, has been ranked as the world’s most liveable city for the second consecutive year.
  • Vienna scored highly on its reliable infrastructure, standout culture and entertainment and exemplary education and health services.
  • The report also noted that this year’s average score has risen to a 15-year high, with a return to order after the covid-19 pandemic and better healthcare and education in developing countries.
