Amit Shah Launches ‘CRCS-Sahara Refund Portal’

Current Context: Union Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah launched the ‘Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies (CRCS) – Sahara Refund Portal’ on July 18, 2023. The portal is aimed at helping over 10 crore depositors of the Sahara Group to claim their money back within 45 days of registration in the portal.

• The portal has been developed by a subsidiary of IFCI Ltd., for submission of legitimate claims by the depositors of these cooperative societies.
• The portal was launched following a Supreme Court order dated March 29, 2023 that directed the transfer of Rs. 5000 Crores from the ‘Sahara-SEBI Refund Account’, to the CRCS for disbursement against the legitimate dues of the genuine depositors of the Sahara Group of Cooperative Societies.
• To begin with, depositors would get up to Rs. 10,000 refund and subsequently the amount would be enhanced for those who have invested higher amounts.
• The portal can be accessed at mocrefund.crcs.gov.in and the toll-Free Number is 1800 103 6891 / 1800 103 68931. Depositors are required to visit the website to initiate the refund process.
