Current Context: Gramin Awas Nyay Yojana is a new rural housing scheme launched by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on July 20, 2023.

  • The scheme aims to help families which are facing challenges in getting housing approval due to the eligibility criteria for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
  • The eligibility rules are based on Socio-Economic Survey 2011 (officially called Socio-Economic and Caste Census – SECC 2011).
  • Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, previously Indira Awas Yojana, is a social welfare programme, to provide housing for the rural poor in India.
  • The programme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015 and aims to construct 2.95 crore houses by 2022.
