  • National:
    • On July 7, 2023, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched the NCC Integrated Software in New Delhi. This software serves as an interactive platform following an entry-to-exit model, specifically designed for NCC cadets.
    • The Ministry of Education has released a report on Performance Grading Index 2.0 for States/UTs for the year 2021-22. The report grades the performance of States/UTs on a uniform scale.

    • India and the US conducted a multi-agency operation called ‘Operation Broader Sword’ to prevent illicit pharmaceuticals, devices or precursor chemicals from being shipped to the US through the International Mail System (IMS)
    • India has joined the Champions Group of the Global Crisis Response Group (GCRG) after accepting an invitation from United Nations Secretary General (UNSG) Antonio Guterres to Prime Minister Narendra Modi
    • According to a new report by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and François-Xavier Bagnoud Center for Health and Human Rights at Harvard University (FXB), more than half of child trafficking victims are trafficked within their own country
    • The AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva on July 6-7, 2023, aimed at accelerating the world’s achievement of the 2030 targets of the United Nations-mandated Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Fifty-one robots, nine of which were humanoid, were part of the event
    • President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the Visitor’s Conference 2023 at Rashtrapati Bhavan on July 10, 2023. In her inaugural address, the President said that education is vital for the progress of the individual, society and country.
    • Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has approved a proposal for starting the Teacher Interface for Excellence (TIE) programme. As part of this programme, the teachers of government universities, colleges and polytechnic colleges will get training in prestigious institutions of the country and abroad
    • Tamil Nadu government has issued comprehensive guidelines for the implementation of the ‘Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam’ (women’s basic income scheme).
  • Economy:
    • Foxconn has withdrawn from a $19 billion semiconductor joint venture with Indian metals and mining conglomerate Vedanta to build a semiconductor and display production plant in India.
    • According to the Income Tax department, India’s net direct tax collection so far this fiscal grew 16% to Rs 4.75 lakh crore. This collection represents 26.05% of the total budget estimates of direct taxes for the full 2023-24 fiscal, which is set at Rs 18.23 lakh crore.
  • World:
    • NATO country leaders and delegations have started gathering in Vilnius, Lithuania for the alliance’s summit due to take place on July 11-12, 2023
    • According to the United Nations, India has registered a remarkable reduction in poverty with 41.5 crore people coming out of it in just 15 years. The UN said that 25 countries, including India, successfully halved their global Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) values within 15 years, showing that rapid progress is attainable
    • Southeast Asia’s top diplomats will gather in Indonesia on Tuesday, July 11, amid pressure to address a bloody political crisis in Myanmar and resolve tensions in the South China Sea where some ASEAN members have overlapping territorial claims with China
    • Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte has said he will quit politics after his coalition government collapsed on Friday in a row over asylum policies. After nearly 13 years in power, Mr. Rutte is one of Europe’s longest-serving leaders
    • China and the Solomon Islands have signed a deal on police cooperation as part of an upgrade of their relations to a “comprehensive strategic partnership”. This move comes four years after the Solomon Islands switched its diplomatic ties from Taiwan to China
  • Sports:
    • Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas was knocked out of 2023 Wimbledon after losing to Christopher Eubanks in the Round of 16 on July 10. Christopher Eubanks, an unseeded American, won after a thrilling five-set battle
    • The Indian junior team’s journey in the team event of the prestigious Badminton Asia Junior Championships came to an end as it went down fighting against Indonesia with a score of 3-1 in the quarterfinals in Yogyakarta, Indonesia
    • The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) was honored with the prestigious best member federation award by the Asian Athletics Association in Bangkok. Adille Sumariwalla, the president of AFI, received the esteemed award during a ceremony hosted by the Asian Athletics Association
    • Indian badminton player Lakshya Sen won the Canada Open 2023 men’s singles title after defeating Li Shi Feng of China in the final match held in Calgary. This was his first title of the year and his second BWF Super 500 title
    • Young Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh finished fifth while his illustrious compatriot Viswanathan Anand could only manage a tied seventh place in the third leg of the 2023 SuperUnited Rapid and Blitz chess tournament
  • Important Days:
    • National Fish Farmer’s Day is celebrated every year on July 10 to commemorate the contribution of Professor Dr. Hiralal Chaudhury and his colleague Dr. K. H. Alikunhi in Indian fisheries sector who had guided the induced breeding and reproduction in Indian Major Carps by Hypophysation technique, on this day in 1957, which eventually led to a revolution in Inland Aquaculture
  • Obituary:
    • K M Vasudevan Namboothiri, better known as Artist Namboothiri, was an Indian painter and sculptor, known for his line art and copper relief works. He passed away on July 7, 2023 at the age of 97 while undergoing treatment for age-related ailments at a private hospital in Kottakkal, Malappuram, Kerala.
  • Appointments:
    • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved a 2-year extension of Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT) chief executive officer (CEO) Rajkumar Upadhyay
    • The government has appointed Telecom Secretary K Rajaraman as the new chairperson of the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA). He will succeed Injeti Srinivas, the first chairperson of the regulatory authority, appointed in 2020
    • SBI Cards & Payment Services (SBI Card), the country’s largest pure-play credit card issuer, has appointed Abhijit Chakravorty as MD & CEO for two years. He will assume charge of his new role on August 12, 2023
  • Awards:
    • Coal India Limited (CIL), a leading Coal PSU, has been awarded with the Rising Star Award for its outstanding efforts to enhance procurement through the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal in FY 2022–23.
    • Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance, one of the leading private life insurers in India, has won the Insurer Innovation Award 2023 for the APAC region at The World’s Digital Insurance Awards.
