  • National:
    • In a historic move, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar reconstituted the Panel of Vice-Chairpersons with 50% women Parliamentarians. All four women Parliamentarians who have been nominated are first-time members.

    • The ‘Cannabis Research Project’ of CSIR-IIIM Jammu is the first of its kind in India, initiated under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in Private Public Partnership with a Canadian firm
    • The Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) has adopted the Clean Energy Marine Hubs Initiative (CEM-Hubs) at a global energy summit in Goa, India.The platform brings together the private sector and governments across the energy-maritime value chain to transform maritime transportation and production hubs for future low-carbon fuels
    • Skyroot, a Hyderabad-based space startup, has successfully tested its Raman-II engine at a facility provided by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in Mahendragiri, Tamil Nadu
    • The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is working on a mechanism for instant settlement of trades, called the T+0 system. This process would be faster than the current system of settlement one day after the day of trade (T+1)
    • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is all set to launch the PSLV-C56 rocket that will carry a Singapore satellite (DS-SAR), along with six co-passenger satellites, from the first launchpad of the Sriharikota spaceport at 6.30 am on July 30.
    • A Bill was introduced in Lok Sabha on Monday to include two communities of Chhattisgarh in the list of Scheduled Castes. Union minister Virendra Kumar introduced the Bill amid slogan shouting by opposition members on the Manipur issue
    • The Delhi High Court has said that every citizen has a legal right to hold a passport, and authorities cannot refuse to renew it merely on an apprehension that the earlier passports might have been misused

    • National Broadcasting Day is celebrated in India on July 23rd every year to commemorate the first-ever radio broadcast that took place in the country on this day in 1927. National Broadcasting Day 2023 marks the establishment of the first-ever radio broadcast “All India Radio (AIR)” in India.
  • Sports:
    • Kamaljeet helped India add two more gold medals by bagging the individual and team honours in the 50m free pistol event in the Junior World Championship in Changwon, Korea, on Monday.
    • Third seed Karman Kaur Thandi defeated fourth ranked Yuliia Starodubteva of Ukraine 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 in the final of the $60,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament at Evansville, USA1. This is her second title at the W60 level, following the one in Saguenay, Canada, in October last year.
    • Max Verstappen won the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2023, giving Red Bull their record-breaking 12th win in a row. With this victory, Verstappen clinched his seventh straight victory and Red Bull their 12th in a row, beating McLaren’s long-standing record.
    • India’s men’s doubles team of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won the Korea Open 2023 championship by defeating the top-ranked Indonesian team of Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto in a dramatic three-game final on Sunday.
  • Appointments:
    • Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan has been appointed as the brand ambassador of ICC World Cup 2023. He launched the World Cup 2023 campaign ‘It takes one day’ in his iconic voiceover. The World Cup 2023 will be held in India from October 5 to November 19, 2023.
  • Books:
    • Former Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu released a book named “As the Wheel Turns” on July 20, 2023, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The book is authored by Rayala Corporation CEO Ranjit Pratap and chronicles his triumphs and challenges in the corporate world.
  • International News
    • Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, has been elected as the chair of the World Trade Organisation’s 13th Ministerial Conference (MC13) that will be held in Abu Dhabi in February 2024.
    • The Israeli parliament has recently passed a bill to limit the powers of the judiciary amid mass protests. The bill, known as the “reasonableness” bill, was passed along a 64-0 vote. It is part of a larger package of judicial reforms proposed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his coalition allies.
