Pilot Project of Antyoday Shramik Suraksha Yojana Launched

Current Context: Antyodaya Shramik Suraksha Yojana is a visionary affordable insurance scheme aimed at providing comprehensive coverage and protection to the unorganized sector workers across the nation.

• It was launched by the Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel as a pilot project to ensure the safety and welfare of the state’s laborers.
• The scheme offers insurance benefits and financial assistance to the families of workers who face disability or accidental death due to accidents.
• The scheme is implemented with the cooperation of the Posts Department, India Post Payments Bank and the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
• The workers registered on the e-Shram portal will get priority in this scheme. The scheme will cover about 1 lakh poor families in 60 days under Antyodaya Shramik Suraksha Yojana.
• The scheme covers various benefits such as accidental death, permanent total disability, permanent partial disability, accidental dismemberment, accidental medical expenses, prolonged hospitalization benefit, funeral expenses, repatriation of mortal remains and coma benefit in case of accidents.
