Urban-20 Mayoral Summit begins in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar

Current Context: Urban-20 Mayoral Summit. It was a city diplomacy initiative, comprising of cities from G20 countries, that aimed to develop a collective message that emphasizes the role of cities in taking forward the sustainable development agenda.

• The summit was hosted by Ahmedabad, the chair city for the sixth U20 cycle, in Gandhinagar from 7-8 July.
• The summit concluded with the handover of the Communiqué from the Mayors to G20 leaders, which was endorsed by 105 cities across the world, the highest ever number of endorsements for any U20 Communiqué.
