  • National:
    • Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, that Karnataka would release 10 tmcft of Cauvery river water to the neighboring Tamil Nadu.

    • The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, is organizing the Youth20 Summit 2023 from August 17 to August 20 in Varanasi. The summit will take place under the framework of the G20 Presidency of India and will see the participation of over 125 delegates from 29 countries and 13 international organizations.
    • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced the launch of a pilot project for a Public Tech Platform for Frictionless Credit by the Reserve Bank Innovation Hub (RBIH), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the RBI.
    • India’s imports from Russia doubled to USD 20.45 billion during the April-July period of this fiscal due to increasing inbound shipments of crude oil and fertiliser from that country, according to commerce ministry data.
    • According to a recent report by SBI Research, the per capita income of Indians is expected to increase from Rs 2 lakh in FY23 to Rs 14.9 lakh in FY47, coinciding with 100 years of the country’s Independence.
    • On 15th August 2023, during his Independence Day speech at Red Fort, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi announced that the government has allocated Rs 10 lakh crore as urea subsidy for farmers.

    • India and China have agreed to resolve the remaining issues along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in an “expeditious manner” and maintain peace and tranquility in the border areas.
    • Former US President Donald Trump has been indicted for scheming illegally to overturn his election loss in the 2020 election. This marks the third time he has been indicted on criminal charges.

    • Four Indian chess players have entered the quarterfinals of the FIDE World Cup 2023. They are Gukesh D, Arjun Erigaisi, R Praggnanandhaa, and Vidit Gujrathi.
    • Aditi Swami, a 17-year-old Indian archer, won the senior world championship in the compound women’s category at the World Archery Championships. She became the youngest archer to hold the top position on the podium in an individual category at the senior world championships.

    • Bindeshwar Pathak, the founder of Sulabh International, passed away on Tuesday due to a cardiac arrest at a hospital in Delhi. He was 80 years old.Bindeshwar Pathak was a pioneer in building public toilets and dedicated his life to promoting human rights, environmental sanitation, non-conventional sources of energy, and waste management through education.
