  • National:
    • The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) has collaborated with Arm, a UK-based semiconductor IP company, to expand semiconductor support under the Design Linked Incentive Scheme (DLI) and foster the growth of the sector in India.

    • Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL), a subsidiary of ONGC, has become the largest single-location PSU refinery in India for 2022-231. The company achieved this feat by processing 17.14 million tonnes of crude oil in the last financial year
    • On July 30, 2023, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched the PSLV-C56 carrying Singapore’s DS-SAR satellite and six other satellites. The primary satellite DS-SAR was sponsored by the Government of Singapore.
    • A total of 75.51 lakh houses have been completed under the Prime Ministers’ Awas Yojana (PMAY-U) programme, which is the Centre’s flagship programme to provide housing to the urban poor. Out of these, 71.39 lakh have been occupied till now
    • The Commission for Other Backward Classes appointed to examine sub-categorization of Other Backward Classes has submitted its report to President Droupadi Murmu. The Commission had been entrusted with the task to study the various entries in the Central List of OBCs and recommend the correction of any repetitions.
    • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully injected the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft into a translunar orbit. The crucial maneuver took place in the early hours of Tuesday to propel the spacecraft towards the Moon using a slingshot effect
    • Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with the Lokmanya Tilak National Award at an event in Pune, Maharashtra on August 1, 2023. The award was constituted by Tilak Smarak Mandir Trust in 1983 to honor the legacy of Lokmanya Tilak
  • World:
    • On Monday, July 31, 2023, Pakistan and China signed six key documents to help undertake the second phase of the USD 60 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects under a new model
    • The first new domestically-produced nuclear reactor in nearly seven years has officially started supplying electricity to the power grid. The reactor is located at Plant Vogtle in Augusta, Georgia and is a Westinghouse AP1000, which can generate roughly 1,110 megawatts of energy.
  • Sports:
    • Cristiano Ronaldo became the highest goal scorer with headers in football history when he scored the second goal for Al Nassr against US Monastir in a King Salman Club Cup game at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday
    • Iga Swiatek is currently ranked as the World No. 1 in women’s singles by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) . She has been ranked No. 1 for 70 weeks now. Swiatek is a Polish professional tennis player who has won several major singles titles, including the French Open in 2020, 2022, and 2023 and the US Open in 2022
    • The Indian women’s hockey team achieved a momentous victory in the prestigious Torneo del Centenario 2023 tournament held in Terrassa, Barcelona. With an impressive display of skill and determination, they secured a resounding 3-0 win against the hosts, Spain, marking a historic moment for Indian women’s hockey.
  • Important Days:
    • July 30th marks the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. The theme for the year 2023 is “Reach every victim of trafficking, leave no one behind” . The International Organization for Migration (IOM) looks to raise awareness about developments and trends and will call on governments, law enforcement, public services, and civil society to assess.
    • World Ranger Day is observed on July 31st every year. It is a day to honor and express gratitude towards the brave individuals who dedicate their lives to safeguarding wildlife and preserving our precious natural resources.The theme of World Ranger Day 2023 is “30 by 30”.
