  • National:
    • NITI Aayog and UNDP India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize a framework of cooperation on a number of areas, including Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) localization, data-driven monitoring, Aspirational Districts and Blocks, among others.

    • The government has decided to extend the Rs 25,938-crore production-linked incentive scheme for the automotive sector by one year. Union Heavy Industries Minister Mahendra Nath Pandey announced this on Tuesday
    • A total of 48 African countries have agreed to adopt the Kampala Ministerial Declaration on Migration, Environment and Climate Change (KDMECC) to address the nexus of human mobility and climate change in the continent
    • On the occasion of National Sports Day 2023, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Anurag Singh Thakur launched several digital initiatives, including the third edition of the Fit India Quiz, at an event at the JLN Stadium
    • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has granted a team of technology experts from BITS Hyderabad, IIT Bombay, and IIT Kharagpur a grant of Rs.3.32 crore for passenger safety projects in Hyderabad.
    • According to a survey conducted by the Pew Research Center, Indians are more likely than others to believe that India’s influence is growing. The survey found that India enjoyed a positive image across 23 countries, with a median of 46% adults holding a favorable view of India, while a median of 34% held unfavorable views.
    • The Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMSc) will pay homage to its visionary founder-director, Alladi Ramakrishnan, in his birth centenary year by hosting a conference in his honor at its campus in Taramani, Chennai.
    • The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to plant at least 10,000 trees within a month in Uttarakhand as part of compensatory tree plantation to make up for hundreds of trees felled during construction of a road from Simli to Gwaldam.
  • Economy:
    • A total of 32 companies have expressed interest in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s subsidies for local laptop, PC, server and tablet assembly. The applicants include Dell Inc., the Hewlett-Packard Company, better known as HP, and other firms that work with large brands for assembly.
    • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das recently addressed a conference of directors on the boards of tier 3 and 4 UCBs in Mumbai Zone.
    • The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council has reconstituted two of its groups of ministers (GoMs) tasked with identifying necessary System Reforms to curb evasion and analysing the revenue trends from the 6-year-old indirect tax regime.
    • PhonePe has forayed into the stock broking business by launching its new platform Share.Market, under its subsidiary PhonePe Wealth Broking. The platform will provide market intelligence, quantitative research-based wealth baskets, and a technology platform for investors.
  • Sports:
    • India’s Rohan Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden have advanced to the second round of the men’s doubles category at the US Open 2023. They defeated the Australian pair of Christopher O’Connell and Aleksandar Vukic in the first round
    • The Indian Women’s Hockey Team won the inaugural Women’s Hockey5s Asia Cup on Monday, August 28, 2023, which also served as Asia’s qualifying tournament for the Women’s Hockey 5s World Cup 2024, defeating Thailand 7-2 in the all-important Final
    • India defeated Bangladesh by a massive margin of 15-1 in the men’s Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier contest in Salalah, Oman on 28 August 2023. While Maninder Singh was the leading scorer with four goals, Mohammed Raheel netted three whereas Sukhvinder, Gurjot Singh, and Pawan Rajbhar hit two goals each.
  • Important Days:
    • National Small Industry Day is observed annually on August 30th in India to celebrate  the invaluable contributions made by the small-scale industry (SSI) towards the development and growth of India. This day is dedicated to promoting small businesses nationwide and offering job opportunities to the unemployed for the betterment of their lives
