Current Context: India clinched its first ever gold medal in the women’s compound team event at the World Archery Championships 2023 in Berlin on Friday, August 4.

  • India beat Mexico 235-229 in the final, with Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Aditi Swami and Parneet Kaur scoring 59, 59 and 58 points respectively.
  • It was a historic moment for Indian archery, as they had never won a gold medal at the world championships before. Congratulations to the Indian team!
  • India also won two more gold medals in the individual compound events on Saturday, August 5. Aditi Gopichand Swami became the youngest world champion in archery history, as she beat Andrea Becerra of Mexico 149-147 in the women’s final.
  • Ojas Pravon Deotale also won the men’s final, edging out Lukasz Przybylski of Poland 150-1491. India finished the world championships with three gold and one bronze medal, their best ever performance at the event. What do you think of India’s archery.
