Current Context: ISLRTC and NIOS signed an MoU to promote ISL on July 29, 2023, as part of the 3rd year of NEP 2020 celebrations and 2nd Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Sangam at ITPO, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
ISLRTC and NIOS Signed an MoU to Promote ISL
  • ISLRTC stands for Indian Sign Language Research and Training Center, and NIOS stands for National Institute of Open Schooling. They are both national institutes under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and the Ministry of Education, respectively.
  • The MoU aims to make educational materials accessible for deaf and hard of hearing children in their preferred format of communication, which is Indian Sign Language (ISL). ISLRTC and NIOS will share their expertise and resources, as well as co-develop quality learning resources in ISL, especially in STEM subject.
  • This is a historic partnership that will revolutionize deaf education in India and empower deaf and hard of hearing children to achieve their full potential.
  • It is also in line with the vision of the National Education Policy 2020, which emphasizes inclusive and equitable education for all.
