Karnataka government launches Gruha Lakshmi Scheme

Current Context: Gruha Lakshmi scheme, which is a new initiative by the Karnataka government to empower women and support their livelihood. This scheme was launched on August 30, 2023 by the Congress leaders, including AICC President M Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy D K Shivakumar.

• The Gruha Lakshmi scheme provides monthly financial assistance of ₹2,000 to about 1.1 crore women who are heads of their households.
• The women should belong to Antyodaya, BPL and APL families and should be identified as the head of a family in the ration cards issued by the government.
• The eligible women can register for the scheme online through the Seva Sindhu Guarantee Schemes Portal or offline through Grama One, Bangalore One or Karnataka One office, Bapuji Seva Kendras and Nada Kacheris.
• The state officials will also conduct a door-to-door registration process to record beneficiary detail.
• The Gruha Lakshmi scheme is a progressive and innovative programme that aims to promote women’s empowerment, poverty alleviation, and gender equality in Karnataka. It also recognizes the contribution of women as homemakers, landless workers, and agricultural labourers.
