Current Context: Prime Minister announced the Vishwakarma Yojana scheme on Independence Day to support the traditional skills of artisans and craftsmen.

• The scheme has a budget of around 13-15,000 crore and will benefit around 30 lakh families of craftsmen.
• The scheme will offer various benefits such as recognition, certification, credit support, skill enhancement, training, stipend, modern tools, and quality improvement.
• The scheme will cover 18 traditional trades such as carpentry, pottery, goldsmithing, barbering, tailoring, and more. The scheme will be launched on Vishwakarma Jayanti on September 17.
