Amazon & India Post Signs MoU for MSME Exporters

Current Context: Amazon and India Post have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to simplify cross-border logistics for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) that sell their products on Amazon’s global marketplace.

  • The MoU was unveiled by Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh at Amazon’s Smbhav Summit 2023 on August 31, 2023. A postal stamp was also released to commemorate a decade of partnership between India Post and Amazon.
  • The MoU will enable MSME exporters to access India Post’s network of over 1.5 lakh post offices across the country and leverage its speed post service for faster and cheaper delivery of their packages to customers in over 200 countries.
  • The MoU is part of Amazon’s India Pledges, which aim to digitize 10 million MSMEs, generate $20 billion in cumulative ecommerce exports and create 2 million jobs in India by 2025.
  • Amazon also announced other initiatives to boost India’s digital economy and exports, such as partnering with Indian Railways’ Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFC) for faster deliveries of seller orders to customers, introducing ‘Amazon सह-AI’ – a generative AI powered personal digital assistant for sellers, and opening its fulfilment capabilities for direct-to-consumer (D2C) brands with Multi Channel Fulfilment (MCF).
