    • According to a recent report by the World Bank and UNICEF, an estimated 333 million children globally – or 1 in 6 – live in extreme poverty. This means they are surviving on less than $2.15 a day.
    • The State Bank of India (SBI) has introduced a digital facility for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) to effortlessly open NRE and NRO accounts (both savings and current accounts) through its mobile app YONO. This service is designed for new customers, providing a hassle-free process for account opening and management.
    • The Indian Army has recently inducted 600 self-neutralizing anti-tank mines known as "Vibhav". These mines are designed and manufactured indigenously in collaboration with the Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)
    • The Women’s Reservation Bill, also known as the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, was passed in the Lok Sabha after being in consideration for 27 long years. This historic bill ensures a 33% reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies.
    • Windergy India 2023 Summit is set to commence in Chennai from October 4.     • British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced a delay of five years in imposing a proposed ban on petrol and diesel cars to 2035. This is part of a shift in strategy towards achieving the country’s Net Zero climate action targets

    • N. Neela, the younger of the Sikkil Sisters, celebrated and senior flautists in Carnatic music, passed away on September 17. She was 85.Neela was decorated with several awards including Padma Shri, Sangita Kalanidhi given by The Music Academy and Sangeet Natak Akademi award.
    • Gita Mehta, the renowned author and documentary filmmaker, passed away at the age of 80123. She was the elder sister of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.Alongside her literary endeavors, Gita Mehta also ventured into documentary filmmaking.
