  • National:
    • The Government of India has introduced a new set of National Awards in the field of Science, Technology, and Innovation known as “Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar’’.     • According to a report by the World Health Organization (WHO) titled “Growth of ultra-processed foods in India- An analysis of trends, issues and policy recommendations”, India’s Ultra-Processed Food Sector grew at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 13.37% in retail sales value from 2011 to 2021.
    • The Indian Naval Ship ‘Nireekshak’ successfully conducted vital Mixed Gas Diving training sessions as part of IN-SLN Divex 23. The Indian Navy’s diving support vessel initiated the sea dive on Sunday and after a successful diving exercise, returned with the Sri Lanka Navy divers.
    • The India Global Forum and World Governments Summit have launched the Emerging Economies Programme. This initiative was announced on September 20, 2023, in Dubai, UAE.
    • The National Medical Commission (NMC), India has indeed achieved the remarkable feat of being granted the coveted World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) Recognition Status for a remarkable tenure of 10 years.
    • The Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, has launched two new schemes to improve the nutritional status of women and children.
    • The Election Commission of India (ECI) has indeed taken a unique approach to educate children about the electoral process and the significance of voting. They have released two comic books featuring iconic characters such as Chacha Chaudhary
    • Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) have developed a portable device that can detect heavy metals in soil and water. The device is designed to be user-friendly, even for those without scientific training.
    • The Neelakkurinji Biodiversity Knowledge Centre was inaugurated at Adimaly, which is the entry point to the Munnar hill station in Kerala. This centre was established by the State Haritha Keralam Mission, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the Idukki district panchayat.
    • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has been unable to establish communication with the Vikram lander and Pragyan rover of the Chandrayaan-3 mission. Despite numerous efforts, no signals have been received from these lunar explorers.
    • Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the International Cricket Stadium in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The stadium will be developed in Ganjari, Rajatalab, Varanasi at a cost of about Rs 450 crores and spread across an area of more than 30 acres.
    • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has indeed flagged off nine new Vande Bharat trains. These trains are expected to significantly improve connectivity and boost tourism across India.

    • State Bank of India (SBI) By raising ₹10,000 crore through the issue of infrastructure bonds at a coupon rate of 7.49%, SBI is investing in the future development of the country.
    • Micron Technology, a leading American semiconductor manufacturer, has begun construction of a $2.75 billion semiconductor testing and assembly plant in Gujarat’s Sanand. This marks a significant step in India’s efforts to meet domestic semiconductor demand and reduce imports.
  • World:
    • Ukraine launched a missile attack on the headquarters of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet in Crimea. The attack was one of Kyiv’s recent strikes on Russian military targets in Crimea.
    • China and Syria announced the formation of a strategic partnership on Friday, September 22, 2023. This announcement was made as Chinese leader Xi Jinping kicked off a series of diplomatic meetings ahead of the upcoming Asian Games.
  • Sports:
    • The Indian men’s volleyball team had an impressive run at the Asian Games in Hangzhou. They secured a spot in the quarter-finals with a 3-0 victory over Chinese Taipei. However, their journey ended with a quarterfinal loss to Japan.

    • Hindustani classical vocalist Malini Rajurkar, who epitomised simplicity and depth, passed away in a Hyderabad hospital on Wednesday. She was 82 and had been suffering from age-related ailments.
