  • National:
    • The Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, and Meta have signed a three-year partnership to take digital skills to the grassroots, thus building talent pool capacities and seamlessly connecting students, youth, and micro-entrepreneurs across the country.

    • The Assessment Report on Invasive Alien Species and their Control (Invasive Alien Species Report) was launched by the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) on Monday, 4 September 2023.
    • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has allowed the operation of pre-sanctioned credit lines at banks through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system. Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs) can now enable payments through a pre-sanctioned credit line for individuals, with prior customer consent, for transactions using the UPI system.
    • IBM has collaborated with Indian Bank, a premier public sector bank, to accelerate its modernization path with flexible and secure compute infrastructure for deploying new front-end banking applications, while addressing the business growth of the Core Banking Solution (CBS) workloads for the bank.
    • SpaceX launched 22 Starlink satellites into Low Earth Orbit (LEO) aboard a Falcon 9 rocket. The launch took place at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.
    • The Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has unveiled the G20 Tourism and SDG Dashboard. It was developed under India’s presidency of the G20 with expert knowledge partnership of the UNWTO.
    • Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Joe Biden will hold bilateral talks on September 8 in New Delhi, as confirmed by U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan. President Biden will arrive in India on Friday for the G20 Summit and has a packed schedule for three days.
    • President Droupadi Murmu conferred the National Teachers’ Award 2023 on 75 exceptional educators at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on September 5. The National Teachers’ Awards 2023 celebrates India’s finest educators.
    • On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, September 5, 2023, the University Grants Commission (UGC) introduced the Malaviya Mission— Teachers Training Programme.
  • Economy:
    • Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) has achieved a remarkable milestone by providing tap water connections to 13 crore rural households. The mission has increased the rural tap connection coverage from only 3.23 crore households at the beginning in August 2019 to 13 crore in just four years.
    • The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has recently come out with guidelines to strengthen the existing cyber security and cyber resilience framework for stock exchanges and other market infrastructure institutions (MIIs).
  • World:
    • Southeast Asian leaders decided that Myanmar won’t take over the rotating leadership of their regional bloc as scheduled in 2026. The Philippines agreed to take over the regional bloc’s chairmanship in 2026 at an ASEAN summit hosted by Indonesia on September 6.
    • European Union (EU) Chief Ursula von der Leyen has warned that the return of wolves to parts of Europe has become a real danger for livestock and potentially also for humans. She has promised a review of the predator’s protected status.
  • Sports:
    • Amul is the official sponsor of the Indian Contingent for the XIX 19th Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou, China. Amul has partnered with Indian sportspersons since the London 2012 Olympics and will use the integrated logo in its communication to celebrate the efforts of our athletes.
    • Divya Deshmukh, a 17-year-old Chess Woman Grandmaster from Nagpur, Maharashtra, India, won the women’s rapid portion of the Tata Steel Chess India tournament. She finished with 5.5 points, followed by reigning world champion Ju Wenjun on 4 points and Polina Shuvalova on 3.5 points.
  • Important Days:
    • International Day of Charity is observed annually on September 5th. It is a United Nations initiative aimed at fostering and promoting charity and philanthropy worldwide.The theme for International Day of Charity 2023 is “Global Solidarity to End Poverty”.
  • Appointments:
    • Rajesh Nambiar, Chairman and Managing Director of Cognizant India, has been appointed as the new Chairperson of NASSCOM. He is succeeding Anant Maheshwari, the former President of Microsoft India.
