Current Context: India and Bangladesh have signed three MoUs to strengthen their bilateral cooperation in various fields, such as digital payment, culture, and agriculture.

  • The MoUs were exchanged after a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina in New Delhi on September 9, 2023, ahead of the G20 Summit.
  • The MoU on cooperation in digital payment mechanisms was signed between the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and Bangladesh Bank, which will facilitate cross-border transactions and remittances between the two countries.

  • The third MoU was signed between the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the Bangladesh Agriculture Research Council (BARC), which will enhance cooperation in agricultural research and development.
