- The policy aims to promote research and innovation in the pharmaceutical and medical technology sector in India, and to make India a global leader in this field. The scheme has an outlay of Rs. 5,000 crore for a period of five years, and has two components:
- Strengthening of research infrastructure through establishment of seven National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education & Research (NIPERs) as Centres of Excellence (CoEs) in specific specialisations at a tentative cost of Rs. 700 crore.
