Titagarh Rail Systems Launches Diving Support Craft ‘DSC A 20’

Current Context: The first DSC, named ‘DSC A 20’ (Yard 325), was launched on August 31, 2023 at Titagarh, Kolkata onto Hooghly River. The launch ceremony was presided over by Vice Admiral Sanjay Mahindru, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff.

• The diving support craft (DSC) is a 30-meter long catamaran hull ship with a displacement of about 300 tons.The DSC is designed to undertake operational and training diving operations in harbors and coastal waters.
• The DSC is equipped with state-of-the-art diving equipment and tools to facilitate diving operations in any possible underwater environment.
• The DSC project is a part of the ‘Make in India’ initiative of the Ministry of Defence and will help fill the gap in the Indian Navy’s capabilities.
• The contract for building five DSCs was signed between the Ministry of Defence and Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (TRSL) on February 12, 20. The total contract value is around Rs 175 crore.
