Droupadi Murmu to Inaugurate the International Research Conference

Current Context: President Droupadi Murmu will inaugurate the International Research Conference on Just and Resilient Agri-Food Systems in New Delhi on October 9, 2023. The conference is hosted by the CGIAR GENDER Impact Platform and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).

• The conference aims to promote the sharing of cutting-edge knowledge on gender and inclusion in food systems to help bridge the gap between research and practice and foster gender-equal and socially inclusive, resilient food systems.
• The conference will feature key speakers such as Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Shri Narendra Singh Tomar; India’s G20 Sherpa Shri Amitabh Kant; and CGIAR interim Executive Managing Director Professor Andrew Campbell.
• The conference will also convene a global network of gender researchers and other stakeholders to take stock of agricultural gender research and propose innovations for food systems transformation.
• The conference is significant in the wake of the recent G20 Summit that unequivocally endorsed women-led development, especially in relation to climate change, food security and nutrition.
• The conference is also aligned with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5 of achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls by 2030.
