India’s first solar roof cycling track has been Inaugurated

Current Context: India’s first solar roof cycling track has been inaugurated in Hyderabad on October 2, 2023 by the minister of municipal administration and urban development, KT Rama Rao.

• The track is named Healthway and covers a distance of 23 km along the Outer Ring Road (ORR). It is the second in the world after South Korea’s solar rooftop covered track.
• The track is unique as it has 16,000 solar panels installed on its roof, capable of generating 16 megawatts of electricity.
• This sustainable energy source promises substantial savings for the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and also reduces carbon emissions.
• The track also features various amenities such as docking stations, health emergency facility, food stalls, bike repair stations, and car parking at the access points. The track is open 24/7 and accessible for night cycling as well.
