  • National:

    • Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a historic two-day visit to Jharkhand on November 14th and 15th, 2023. On the occasion of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, PM Modi kickstarted the ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra.
    • The first INDUS-X Investors Meet was held in Delhi on November 8, 2023. This event was organized by Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) under the Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence, and the US Department of Defence.
    • InCred Holdings Limited, the holding company of fintech startup InCred Financial Services Ltd, has indeed become the second unicorn of 2023.
    • The Association of Asia-Pacific Airlines (AAPA), a group of 14 airlines, has indeed passed a resolution to strive for 5% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) utilization by 2030. This resolution was passed at the 67th Assembly of Presidents held in Singapore.
    • The Indian Army and the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) have indeed rebuilt a Bailey bridge in the flood-hit region of North Sikkim. This was done to reconnect the flood-affected areas of North Sikkim with the mainland. The bridge was constructed over the Teesta River at Chungthang.
    • The Indian Navy ship INS Sumedha has completed a 31-day anti-piracy patrol in the Atlantic Ocean. This was the second such patrol undertaken by the Navy in the Gulf of Guinea, which is an important source of India’s energy requirements.
    • 66 Indians got Cyprus’s Golden Passport between 2014 and 2020. Cyprus’s Golden Passport is a term used to describe the citizenship by investment program that Cyprus offered to foreign investors who met certain criteria, such as investing at least €2 million in the country’s economy or buying a property worth at least €300,000.
    • The second edition of the Voice of Global South Summit was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 17, 2023. This is the second time that India is hosting the summit since January this year.
  • International:
    • According to the World Energy Employment Report from the International Energy Agency (IEA), hiring in clean energy has pushed energy sector employment globally above pre-pandemic levels. The IEA’s World Energy Outlook 2023 report also highlights the emergence of a new clean energy.
    • The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) reported that greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere hit new record highs in 2022. The report highlighted that there is no end in sight to the rising trend. The levels of the three main greenhouse gases – carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide – all saw significant increases.
    • India and the European Union (EU) are indeed inching closer to settling their $600 million trade dispute at the World Trade Organization (WTO). This comes after India settled all seven trade disputes at the WTO with its largest trade partner, the US.
  • Banking:
    • The MSCI EM Standard Index has witnessed 9 fresh inclusions with no exclusions. The new entrants include IndusInd Bank, Suzlon Energy, Persistent Systems, APL Apollo, Polycab, Macrotech Developers, Tata Motors A, One 97 Communications (Paytm), and Tata Communications.
  • Appointments:
    • Amit S Telang, an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer of batch 2005, has been appointed as India’s next High Commissioner to Guyana by the Ministry of External Affairs.
  • Important Days:
    • The National Newborn Week 2023 was observed from November 15 to November 21. The theme for this year was "Safety, Quality and Nurturing care - Birth Right of Every Newborn".
    • The International Day for Tolerance in 2023 is on Thursday, 16th of November. This day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 1996, following the adoption of a Declaration of Principles on Tolerance by UNESCO’s Member States on 16 November 1995. The theme of this day is "Tolerance is respect, acceptance, and appreciation of the rich diversity of our world’s cultures, our forms of expression and ways of being human."
  • Awards & Honors:
    • The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has awarded the 2023 Olympic Cup to the Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation. This award is in recognition of the foundation’s commitment to supporting refugee athletes and refugees worldwide through taekwondo.
