Govt appoints Vinay M. Tonse as MD of SBI until Nov 30, 2025

Current Context: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has appointed Vinay M. Tonse as one of the Managing Directors of the State Bank of India (SBI) until November 30, 2025.

• He is currently serving as the deputy MD of the state-owned bank.
• Before this appointment, Vinay M. Tonse had a rich experience in several facets of commercial banking such as corporate credit, treasury, retail, and international banking.
• He joined SBI as a Probationary Officer in 1988 and has worked across different locations in India and abroad.
• Prior to his appointment in SBI Funds Management, Tonse was serving as the chief general manager of the Chennai circle at SBI and was heading the lender’s business & operations in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry.
