  • National:
    • Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) is set to become India’s first airport to introduce the Computer Tomography X-ray (CTX) system for a more effortless screening experience.

    • The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, has launched the National Best Tourism Village Competition 2024 and the National Best Rural Homestay Competition 2024. The Best Tourism Villages Competition seeks to honor a village that best exemplifies a rural tourism destination.
    • Delhi has been reported as the most unsafe metropolitan city for women in India, recording an average of 3 rape cases daily. In 2022, Delhi recorded 14,158 incidents of crime against women, with 186.9 crimes per 1,00,000 women. This figure was a slight increase from the 13,982 crimes against women reported in 2021.
    • The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has indeed won the assembly elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh in 2023. The party’s organizational strength and the role of women voters were among the key factors behind the BJP’s performance in these state assembly elections.
  • International:
    • The President of Maldives, Mohamed Muizzu, has announced that the Indian Government has agreed to withdraw its troops from the Maldives. This decision came after President Muizzu engaged with Indian officials on the sidelines of the COP28 climate summit in Dubai.
  • Banking & Finance:
    • The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) has upheld the penalty imposed by the National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA) on auditors of Dewan Housing Finance Corporation Ltd (DHFL). The NFRA had fined 18 DHFL auditors Rs 1 lakh each.
  • Economy:
    • All eight industries recorded positive growth in October 2023; coal, electricity, and cement sectors shine. The eight core industries' output growth grew 12.1 percent in October 2023, much higher than the 0.7 percent growth recorded in the same month last fiscal.
  • Defence:
    • Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX), the flagship initiative of the Department of Defence Production, signed its 300th contract on December 1, 2023, in New Delhi. The objective of this contract is to design, develop and manufacture Gallium Nitride (GaN) semiconductors for defence in India using completely indigenous GaN technology.
  • Reports:
    • The Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, released the Dynamic Ground Water Resource Assessment Report for the entire country for the year 2023. The assessment was carried out jointly by the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) and States/UTs.
  • Important Days:
    • The International Day for the Abolition of Slavery is observed every year on December 2 to raise awareness and reinforce global efforts to eliminate all forms of slavery. The theme for the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery 2023 is "Fighting slavery’s legacy of racism through transformative education".
  • Appointments:
    • The Board of Directors of Bandhan Bank has approved the reappointment of Mr. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh as the Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer (MD&CEO) of the Bank, for three years, with effect from July 10, 2024.
    • On 4th December 2023, Geojit Financial Services, a Kerala-based financial services company, appointed Rahul Roy Chowdhury as Chief Executive Officer of their Private Wealth Services and Gopinath Natarajan as Chief Executive Officer of their Portfolio and Managed Assets services.
