    • The COP28 (Conference of the Parties) was organized by the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
    • The COP28 closed with an agreement that signals the “beginning of the end” of the fossil fuel era by laying the ground for a swift, just, and equitable transition, underpinned by deep emissions cuts and scaled-up finance. 
    • The final agreement envisaged a tripling of the world’s renewable energy capacity by 2030, a target endorsed by 116 parties at COP28.
    • A decision was made on the world’s first ‘global stocktake’ to ratchet up climate action before the end of the decade – aiming to keep the global temperature limit of 1.5°C within reach.
    •  A “loss and damage” fund was created to support the most vulnerable countries in the face of climate-related disasters.
