World Tamil Diaspora Day celebrated on 12 January in Chennai

Current Context: The World Tamil Diaspora Day was indeed celebrated in Chennai on 12th January. This day is celebrated every year to acknowledge the contributions of the Tamil Diaspora, integrate Tamils living abroad, and encourage them.

• The event was marked by the participation of Tamils from 58 countries.
• The celebrations were inaugurated by Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development, Udhayanidhi Stalin.
• The theme for the World Tamil Diaspora Day 2024 was ‘Tamil Vellum’ which translates to 'Tamil will win’.
• During the event, awards were given to thirteen exemplary personalities for their significant contributions to the development of Tamils.
• Tamils who excelled in 8 categories namely Tamil literature, Education, Social Development, Women, Business, Science and Technology, Sports and Medicine were honoured by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
