Current Context: On February 26, 2024, the Ministry of Ayush and the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.
AYUSH & MoWCD MoU for Ayurveda-Based Nutritional Enhancement in Adolescent Girls
  • The MoU is for a joint public health initiative aimed at controlling anaemia among adolescent girls using Ayurveda interventions in five districts under Mission Utkarsh.
  • The districts are Dhubri in Assam, Bastar in Chhattisgarh, Paschimi Singhbhum in Jharkhand, Gadchiroli in Maharashtra, and Dhaulpur in Rajasthan.
  • This initiative is part of the ‘Anaemia Mukt Bharat’ (Anaemia Free India) campaign.
  • Union Minister of Ayush, Sarbananda Sonowal, and Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Smriti Irani, highlighted the historic significance of the combined efforts of the Ministry of Ayush, ICMR, and MoWCD.
  • The program will initially focus on improving the anemic status of adolescent girls (14-18 years) in the selected districts.
