GoI Notifies Appointment of Chief Justices to Seven High Courts

Current Context: The Government of India (GoI) has notified the appointment of Chief Justices to seven High Courts. These appointments were made by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, in the exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India.

  • Meghalaya: Justice S. Vaidyanathan, Judge of the Madras High Court (Tamil Nadu), was appointed as the Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court.
  • Allahabad (Uttar Pradesh): Justice Arun Bhansali, Judge of the Rajasthan High Court, was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court.
  • Gauhati (Assam): Justice Vijay Bishnoi, a senior puisne Judge of the Rajasthan High Court, was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.
  • Orissa (Odisha): Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh, Judge of the Patna High Court, was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.
  • Uttarakhand: Justice Ritu Bahri, Acting Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court.
  • Rajasthan: Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava, presently serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court, was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court.
  • Punjab & Haryana (Chandigarh): Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia, Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, was appointed to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court.
